A FAMILY HISTORY

Yon-Ka is a 100% French: it was created in 1954 by the Mühlethaler family who had a passion for botany. Pioneers in aromatherapy and phytotherapy, Cécile, Ernest and Charles Mühlethaler establish the Multaler laboratories in 1954, with a rich body of ancestral and empiric knowledge  which they share at the time only with a very few scientists, chemists and physicians.

At first, they focus on the subtle aromas of the plants and their essential oils charged with solar energy. They experiment on themselves and their relatives the many therapeutic benefits essential oils offer: purifying, healing, psychotropic…

Their researches lead them to a major breakthrough: the « Quintessence », a unique blend of 5 essential oils, all issued from the Mediterranean, and which becomes the cornerstone of their future skin care range.

As of 1968, the Mühlethaler sisters, Catherine (an aesthetician) and Françoise (a biochemist) lead the company, giving a new international impulse to the brand notably in the United-States. Today, Yon-Ka is present in 56 countries through a network of beauty salons, spas and aesthetic clinics.

The « phyto » treatments are considered household remedies and this is the golden age of chemistry. Nobody talks about botanicals. Yet, with a passion for plants and aromatherapy, Cécile, Ernest and Charles Mühlethaler, go against the trend and create the Multaler Laboratories

Their research explores the subtle aromas of the plants, their essential oils charged with solar energy. This is how they uncover the Quintessence, a synergetic blend of five essential oils which will become the DNA of their phyto-aromatic brand « Yon-Ka » 

They experiment its therapeutic benefits on themselves and their relatives and soon appear to be pioneers in the field of aromatherapy. Their first developments, with medical purpose, are intended for physiotherapists.

1957

The product range is growing. Yon-Ka turns to the aestheticians and soon becomes the « medication of the skin » according to its clients.

1960

First step in the history of the brand.

Researchers add the actives of the totum of the plant to aromatherapy, the therapy based upon essential oils. New synergies appear. The creative concept evolves to become the integrated phyto-aromatherapy and is immediately very successful. Not only are the professionals seduced but they are also convinced by the efficacy, the power of the rebalancing aromas, the immediate results when performing the treatments, and the customer’s experience. At this point the Yon-Ka products are only available in France.

1968

Françoise and Catherine, daughters and nieces of the founders, become respectively CEO and GM of the Multaler laboratories.

Françoise is a biochemist, Catherine an aesthetician; a complementarity that brings a whole new scope to the brand: the art of touch. With the creation of holistic treatments Yon-Ka sets again a new trend in its field.

This year also marks the beginning of the international development of the brand.

1987

The Yon-Ka laboratories open their American subsidiary; the Spa market is booming in North America. Yon-Ka broadens its treatment collection with new protocols and new beauty and wellbeing rituals characterised by their comprehensive approach of the individual 

1995

Yon-Ka completes its range with new promising actives: the fruit acids (AHA), even though they are unknown at the time.

In France, Yon-Ka is one of the very first brands to experiment these molecules with success.

1999

The Multaler laboratories relocate in the Paris suburbs and start manufacturing under pharmaceutical standards: clean-room environment, state-of-the-art control equipment, traceability management.

2007

Yon-Ka For Men is launched.

2012

Yon-Ka unveils its new packaging. 

2014

Yon-Ka celebrates 60 years of success !

2016

The Multaler laboratories launch new innovative anti-ageing offers with Time Resist, a wrinkle-filler range and Age Exception, the premium global anti-ageing range. 

2017

Launch of four « boosters » that allow a bespoke approach of the treatments

2018

Launch of the new body collection : Aroma-Fusion
